The game was developed on a LOL shield, a charlieplexed LED matrix for the Arduino, before the display was ramped up to what you see in the video. The LEDs are individually addressable, so you can use it to display anything in a 9×14 grid. Scroll text, play games, display images, or anything else you want to do.

What a coincidence……. I was just listening to Spotify whilst writing my last blog post and this song, Evolution (Versao Portuense) by The Cinematic Orchestra, came on. During the intro the old school style voice over describing brain-computer interfaces from the my second to last blog post, accidentally started playing from another tab. It synced perfectly to the Evolution song and I thought it was the actual track it sounded so good. Weird!
